The Brief
Meridian Architects is a mid-size contemporary architecture firm based in Manhattan. Their built work is stunning — clean, light-filled spaces that blend modernism with warmth — but their website hadn't been updated in five years and didn't reflect the quality of their projects. They needed a complete digital overhaul.
Strategy
We approached this project the way architects approach a building: structure first, then surface. We conducted a content audit, interviewed the partners, and mapped out an information architecture that prioritized their project portfolio above all else.
The insight was simple: for an architecture firm, the work is the brand. Everything else — bios, philosophy, press — exists to support the portfolio. So we designed the site as a gallery experience, letting the photography do the heavy lifting.
Design
The visual identity pairs a refined geometric wordmark with generous whitespace and a monochromatic palette — warm grays, stone whites, and charcoal. The restraint allows the vivid photography of their built projects to take center stage.
Typography is critical for architecture firms, and we selected a pairing that communicates precision without coldness: a geometric sans-serif for headings and a humanist serif for body text.
Interaction Design
Eliot designed a series of subtle micro-interactions — smooth page transitions, parallax scrolling on project images, and a custom cursor that transforms contextually — that add polish without distracting from the content.
The portfolio filtering system lets visitors browse by project type, location, and year, making the site both a showcase and a practical resource for potential clients.
Outcome
Since launch, Meridian has seen a 140% increase in website inquiries. The site was featured on Awwwards and received a Site of the Day nomination. Three new clients cited the website as their primary reason for reaching out.
Most agencies hand you a beautiful site that doesn't bring in work. Eliot and his team rebuilt our site as a tool — the way our partners actually use it — and inquiries doubled inside a quarter. Three of our last six commissions came directly from the new site.
