About Ava

Ava Rodriguez fell in love with print design the first time she ran her hands across a freshly debossed business card in her college letterpress studio. That physical, almost sculptural quality of printed matter has been the center of her practice ever since. She studied Visual Communication Design at the University of Miami before moving to New York to pursue an MFA in Design at Pratt Institute, where she focused on editorial design and typographic systems.

Before joining Fireflies Collective, Ava spent three years at a boutique packaging studio in SoHo, designing for independent food and beverage brands, skincare lines, and small-batch fragrance houses. She developed an instinct for how materials, finishes, and structural form can elevate a brand's story beyond what ink on paper alone can achieve. Her work has been recognized by the Type Directors Club, Print Magazine, and the Dieline.

At the studio, Ava leads print and packaging projects from concept through production. She is the team's go-to authority on paper stocks, printing techniques, and production specifications. She maintains close relationships with local printers and binderies across Brooklyn and Manhattan, and she insists on press checks for every major project — a commitment to craft that clients notice immediately.

Ava draws creative energy from her weekend ritual of visiting flea markets and used bookstores, collecting vintage packaging, matchbook covers, and mid-century ephemera. She believes that the best typographic solutions come from understanding history and then deliberately breaking its rules with intention and joy.
